The Western Region of the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is a non-profit established in 2005 to administer the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence in Oregon, Washington and California. The Shingo Prize is named for Japanese industrial engineer Shigeo Shingo who distinguished himself as one of the world's leading experts in improving manufacturing processes. Dr. Shingo has been described as an "engineering genius" who helped create and write about many aspects of the revolutionary manufacturing practices which comprise the renowned Toyota Production System.

The Prize was established in 1988 to promote awareness of Lean manufacturing concepts and recognize companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico that achieve world-class manufacturing status. The Shingo Prize philosophy is that world-class business performance may be achieved through focused improvements in core manufacturing and business processes.

The Shingo Prize recognizes organizations and researchers and highlights the value of using and expanding the body of ideas and world-class manufacturing practices by offering the prize in three categories: business, research and the public sector. In addition, the Shingo Prize also recognizes organizations on a regional and state level and is awarded at four levels (platinum, gold, silver and bronze).

The Western Region of the Shingo Prize is governed by a Board of Directors , which is composed of leading representatives from businesses, professional organizations and academic institutions. A dedicated management team oversees day-to-day operations while promotional support is provided by partners and sponsors.
